Pointe & Pre-Pointe
Level 2 & Level 3
Pre-Pointe:
Pre-Pointe is a foundational training stage designed to prepare dancers for the demands of pointe work. It is intended for dancers who are not yet ready to dance in pointe shoes but are progressing toward that level. This class focuses on developing the strength, alignment, and technical readiness required for a safe transition to pointe.
Focus Areas Include:
• Strengthening the legs, feet, and ankles to support proper foot articulation and arch development
• Improving alignment and posture to support strong classical ballet technique
• Building balance, coordination, and core strength for stability and control
• Reinforcing correct foot and ankle placement to reduce risk of injury
• Ongoing instructor evaluation to assess readiness for pointe progression
Typical Requirements:
• Enrollment in a weekly ballet class (Ballet 3 or higher, or equivalent level)
• Minimum age requirement (typically 10–12+, depending on readiness)
• Instructor approval following formal evaluation
Pointe:
Pointe is an advanced stage of ballet training in which dancers perform while fully supported on the tips of the toes using specially designed pointe shoes. This work requires significant strength, control, and technical mastery and should only be introduced after proper preparation through Pre-Pointe training.
Pointe training focuses on:
• Advanced strengthening of feet, ankles, and supporting muscles
• Refined balance, turnout, and body alignment
• Controlled execution of classical ballet technique on pointe
• Safe progression under direct instructor supervision
Dancers should never begin pointe work without instructor approval, as improper or premature training can lead to injury. Pointe training builds on the foundation established in Pre-Pointe, allowing dancers to safely progress into advanced classical ballet technique.
